I was at the first Friday holy hr. on Oct 7th. Fr. was leading us into deep moments of prayer and contemplation. At one point he asked us to just gaze upon the face of Jesus and see the face of mercy. I looked at the cross and up at Jesus’ face. It gave me great peace and I just asked for his guidance.
All at once it was as if instead of Jesus before me a mirror appeared in His place. I saw myself and the words of Jesus “become more like me….” Then a second image appeared. This time I was looking at a needy and distressed person- with pity. Yet again the mirror appeared, replacing the person I had been looking at. The image in the mirror was me..broken and needy. And the deep awareness..if I was that broken person how much wld I need the mercy of others…kindness and a helping hand. I felt shaken and grateful.
Thank you Lord for teaching me as you would a child, with infinite patience and love. lf I really desire to touch other lives I must just humbly seek to be more like Him and see myself in the broken souls around me…maybe then I will better understand mercy
